DEEP EQUALIZATION CLINIC
MANOLIS GIANKOS
Build a strategy for your equalization
This four-day seminar is designed for freedivers who want to understand, improve, and
personalize their equalization technique. The goal is not only to explain equalization
theoretically, but also to identify how each participant is currently equalizing, detect individual
limitations, and build a practical strategy that can be applied progressively in training and depth.
The seminar combines theory, in-water practice, video analysis, individual feedback, and
personalized exercises.
What will you learn?
This masterclass will include a clear understanding of:
- how the diver currently equalizes,
- what the main personal limitations are for the moment,
- which technical corrections are most important,
- which exercises should be continued after the seminar
- how the diver should approach future training
- what steps are needed in order to make equalization safer, easier, and more effective at depth.
By the end of the seminar, each participant should have a much clearer understanding of their own equalization mechanism, their personal challenges, and the most appropriate path for further improvement.

Participation requirements
To enroll for Equalisation Workshop, you must be at least 18 years old and have a freediving certification from a recognized training agency.
You need to have valid insurance covering freediving activities for the duration of your stay with us. Alternatively insurance can be purchased through Kalamata Freedivers.

Schedule
On the first afternoon, we will focus on the essential anatomy and physiology needed to understand the mechanism of pressure equalization.
We will explain the relevant anatomy of the thoracic cage, airways, Eustachian tubes, middle ear, soft palate, tongue, glottis, and diaphragm, and how these structures are involved during descent.
A major part of this session will be dedicated to clarifying the different equalization techniques used in freediving. We will discuss how they work, when they are useful, and what limitations they may have.
We will also address and break down some of the common myths surrounding deep
equalization. The goal is to replace confusion and misinformation with a clear, practical
understanding of what actually happens during a dive.
By the end of the first day, we will also try to define, at least theoretically, the current
equalization pattern of each participant: how each diver is equalizing at this stage, what
technique they are most likely using, and what potential issues may already be visible from the discussion.
Morning – Sea Session
On the second morning, we will go to the sea for the first practical session.
Based on the theory covered on the first day, our goal will be to identify exactly how each
participant is equalizing in real diving conditions. We will observe the descent, body position,
timing, relaxation, mouthfill or air management if applicable, and any visible difficulties during
equalization.
During this session, we will also take videos so that each student can clearly see and understand
what they are actually doing during the dive. Video feedback is an important tool as most divers
are not fully aware of their equalization habits, timing, or even compensation manouvers.
Afternoon – Video Review and Individual Feedback
In the afternoon, we will review the videos from the morning session.
We will analyze each diver individually and try to identify the specific difficulties that may be
limiting their equalization. These may include technical mistakes, timing issues, unnecessary
tension, poor body position, lack of relaxation, incorrect use of the tongue or soft palate, glottis
control issues, or problems with air management.
For each participant, we will begin defining possible solutions and corrections that can be tested
during the following sessions.
Morning – Sea Session
On the third morning, we will return to the sea.
The main purpose of this session will be to apply the corrections and technical adjustments identified during the previous day’s video analysis. Each participant will work on the specific elements that are most relevant to their own equalization process.
We will again record videos in order to compare the changes, observe progress, and identify which corrections are effective and which areas still need more work.
Afternoon – Second Video Review and Home Exercises
In the afternoon, we will review the new videos from the third-day sea session.
At this stage, we will go deeper into the individual details of each participant’s equalization
technique. We will try to understand more precisely where the remaining difficulties are and how they can be approached.
We will also define a series of specific dry exercises that each participant can continue practicing at home. These exercises will be chosen according to the needs of each diver and may focus on awareness, coordination, soft palate control, tongue position, glottis control, relaxation, flexibility, or air movement.
The goal is to give every participant practical tools that can continue to improve their equalization even after the seminar is finished.
Morning – Sea Session
On the fourth and final morning, we will have the last sea session.
The goal will be to further improve the application of the techniques and corrections that suit each participant. We will focus on making the equalization process more controlled, more efficient, and more reliable during descent.
Each diver will continue working with the technique or combination of techniques that best fits their current level, physiology, and diving goals.
Afternoon – Final Review and Personal Strategy
In the final afternoon session, we will discuss everything that happened during the seminar. We will review the progress, the difficulties, the corrections, and the individual observations made during the four days. For each participant, we will try to create a complete personal equalization strategy.
